I was tasked with developing a 15x20 poster based on a carefully chosen metaphor that encapsulates a complex emotion, thought, or perspective related to myself. This would be based on answering personal questions related to who and where I will be on my 80th birthday. I chose to explore: "How will my creativity bloom in 80 years?" As a graphic designer, my hope is that I am being creative for the entirety of my life.
When I think of creativity, I think of my favorite flower, the California poppy. It is an obnoxiously bright bloom that can withstand harsh conditions and still remain beautiful. Creativity is like this in many ways. I began by basic sketches of what I originally thought was going to be an illustrated poster. However, I was inspired by project 1 to continue refining my collage method of creating. I have a personal library of my own poppy photography, so these would serve as the perfect assets.
Poppy Imagery: In my free time, I have been experimenting with layering poppies on top of each other. For my poster, I cut out physical copies of my photography and layered them together.
